Reception - 2025 Intake

Your child starting school is an exciting time and we are very much looking forward to working in partnership with you and your family to give your child the best possible experience and start to school life.

Our goal is to help children become reflective, confident and caring young people who love learning. We have a strong team who are committed to helping children become respectful, responsible and resilient and these values are at the heart of our culture. We have a wide range of fantastic facilities and resources, and we use these to enrich the children’s learning experience. Activities beyond the school day extend into all sorts of clubs and activities and these provide children with the opportunity to engage in new and challenging situations.

School day

School commences at 8.45am with the classroom doors closing at 8.50am.  After this time children are to come through the main entrance and report to a member of the admin team.  The end of the day is at 3.20pm.

Reception Classes

Classes throughout school are named after countries, with our two Reception classes being Egypt and Spain. We also have school house teams and your child will be allocated a house when they commence school.

Safeguarding

We are very conscious about the wellbeing of every child and have a responsibility to deal appropriately with any concerns that we might have.

Mrs Wall, Mrs Midgley and Mrs Moran are our Designated Safeguarding Leads. Mrs Marsh is our deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.

The Importance of Learning Through Play

The children in Early Years learn through play. Well planned purposeful play, both indoors and outdoors, is a key way in which young children learn with enjoyment and challenge. Play experiences will be planned in all areas of learning. Spontaneous, child-initiated activities will also take place, following the particular interests and ideas of the children.

Class Dojo

We use the Class Dojo system to share what we have been doing in class with parents and carers. This will include, photographs, observations, samples of work.

School Money/Teacher2Parents

We use a cashless system, SchoolMoney, which allows you to pay online using your credit/debit card and is our preferred method of making payments.

For SchoolMoney you will have a secure online account, which you will access by using your unique username and password. Once you activate your account, you will be prompted to create your own username and password which you must keep safe for future use.

To activate your account you will receive a welcome message once your child starts school.

Chair pockets

We use chair pockets in the classroom to help children organise their belongings such as book bags, hats, pictures for home time etc. These can be purchased from the classroom in the first week of September, for £8. We ask that parents/carers either buy or make one.

If you would like to make your own chair pocket, please request the pattern template from the class teacher

Before and After School Clubs

Carr Green offers a popular Breakfast Club which operates between 7.30am and 8.45am in the school small hall. The cost of the breakfast club is £7.00 per session and will include a healthy, nutritious breakfast along with games/activities. The club is run by our own school staff who will deliver children to their classrooms each morning. Speak with a member of the office team to book your place.

The Willows Day Nursery runs an After School Club from our small hall, please contact John Cunnington at the Willows on 01484 715676 or email info@willowsdn.co.uk for further details.

Uniform

We are very proud of how smart our pupils look in their school uniform. For a full list of our uniform and PE Kit, and for Supplier information, you can click here.

Please provide a change of clothes, to be kept in school (including socks and underwear) in case of an accident.

Your child will also need to bring a bag large enough to fit an A4 reading folder in. Please ensure all items are named.

Jewellery

Jewellery/watches/earrings – for reasons of safety, children are not allowed to wear watches or jewellery during lessons involving physical activity. We would prefer children not to wear jewellery or bring valuable items to school at all: the school cannot be held responsible for loss or damage. If earrings are unable to be removed, they will be unable to participate in PE.

Milk and Fruit

Milk and fresh fruit is available for children in EYFS and years 1 & 2. Children are also encouraged to drink water throughout the day.

Milk is free for Reception children until the term in which they turn five, and to those pupils who are in receipt of FSM up to year 2.

Your child will be automatically registered with Cool Milk.

School Meals

School dinners are cooked on site or there is the option for children to bring a packed lunch. We operate a 3 week rolling menu which can be viewed here.

Absence / Sickness

If your child is going to be absent from school, please ensure you contact the office by 8.30am via text message or voicemail (Absence line 1 on the answering service) giving the full reason why they are absent. This is so the registers are updated and the correct reason for absence is recorded.

If we have not recieved a reason for absence, the office staff will use all contact numbers provided to get in touch with you to try to ascertain why your child is not in school.

We ask that you please do not leave absence messages via Class Dojo.

Thinking about our children’s safety, school may visit the family home.

Medical

In the event of an accident in school, your child will be cared for by a Qualified Paediatric First Aider. The accident will be recorded according to our policy.

If your child accidently bumps their head in school, you will receive a text message from the office to inform you that they have been seen by a First Aider and are well enough to stay in school. If the injury is more serious, we will contact parents/ carers accordingly. If you have any queries, please contact the office team.

If your child needs medicine during the school day, you will need to fill in the relevant form in the office. The medicine will be stored safely and administered by a designated member of staff in accordance with the dosage information you provide.

If an asthma inhaler is needed, you will need to fill in the relevant form, however the inhaler will be stored safely in your child’s classroom. Please ensure the inhaler is in date and note when it needs replacing.
