Reception Admissions Arrangements

To apply for a place in our Nursery, please register interest in the first instance by contacting the school office on 01484 715969 and speak to a member of the office team.  Alternatively, please email admin@carrgreen.org.uk.

Admissions to our school are administered by Calderdale Local Authority, details can be found here. The published admission limit is 45 children per year group at our school.

Admissions to Reception – children are presently admitted to school at the beginning of the school year (September 1 to
August 31) in which their fifth birthday falls. Parents seeking a place at the school should register their interest with the school office. All parents registering an interest at our school will be invited to an 'Open Day' where there is the opportunity to hear more about our school and have a look around, this is usually in the November before the child is due to start school and before the application process opens. Places are offered by the local authority in April. If your child is offered a place you will be invited to an Information Evening where you will have the opportunity to meet the staff, visit the classrooms and return all paper work. Your child will also be invited to visit and spend time in their new class before they start in September. 

Calderdale Oversubscription Criteria for Community Primary Schools

 Places will be allocated in community and voluntary controlled primary schools in the following order of priority:

1. Pupils who are in public care (children ‘looked after’) or pupils who were previously looked after but ceased to be so because they became adopted or became subject to a child arrangements or special guardianship order immediately following having been looked after.
2. Pupils who have a brother or sister (including step/half brothers and sisters) permanently resident in the same household and currently attending the school or its associated junior school (excluding pupils in their final year).
3. Other children.

Notes

1. A sibling link cannot be claimed where a sibling in receipt of an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or is attending a resourced unit within a mainstream primary school.
2. If there is oversubscription in any category then pupils will be admitted in order of proximity of the pupil’s permanent home to the school. Distance will be calculated using a straight line measurement from the pupil’s permanent home to the nearest designated school gate. Distances will be calculated using the Local Authority’s Geographical Information System (GIS). To ensure consistency applies, all measurements will be carried out by this method and no other method of measuring distance will be used. Each property has a coordinate taken from Ordnance Survey Address-Point data. This is the point from which distance measurements will be taken
3. In the event of two or more children living equidistant from the school, as measured by the procedure above, then the decision on which child will be allocated will be made using random allocation. In voluntary controlled schools no account is taken of church membership or affiliation.

Over Subscription Criteria for Nursery Education

Where a school receives more applications than places available then children should be admitted in the following order:

1. Children under statutory assessment of their Education, Health and Care Needs or with an Education, Health and Care Plan in place (which names the school);

2. Children in Public Care (Children who are Looked After), including those who have been adopted or who are subject to a residence order, a special guardianship order, or a child arrangements order.
3. Children who have a sibling attending the school at the time of admission (Siblings are defined as children with brothers or sisters (including half/step brothers or sisters) permanently in the same household, in attendance at the same school or a school on the same site, on the date of admission.
4. Other children

If there is over subscription in any category, then children will be admitted in the order of proximity of the pupil’s permanent home to school.

A parent must not be expected to purchase additional services, for example wrap around care, in order to gain a place at the school. 

Where required, the Local Authority will provide support to a school in applying the part-time admissions criteria.
