Bullying

At Carr Green Primary School, bullying is never tolerated. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment where every child feels valued and secure. We work in close partnership with children, parents, carers, and staff to prevent bullying, address concerns promptly, and support all those involved.

What is Bullying?

Bullying is behaviour that is repeated, intentional, and designed to hurt someone physically or emotionally. It can take different forms, including:

  • Physical bullying – hitting, kicking, pushing, or damaging belongings
  • Verbal bullying – name-calling, insults, threats, or teasing
  • Social or emotional bullying – excluding others, spreading rumours, or humiliating someone
  • Online (cyber) bullying – using technology or social media to upset, threaten, or embarrass others

We help children understand the difference between bullying and occasional disagreements, while always taking concerns seriously.

How We Support Children

We provide a range of support systems to ensure children feel heard, safe, and supported:

  • Trusted adults and regular check-ins
  • Children are encouraged to speak to any trusted adult in school. Staff make time to listen, respond, and regularly check in with children who may need additional support.
  • Worry boxes and peer support
Worry boxes are available for children who may find it difficult to speak out. Peer support systems help children feel supported by their classmates and build a strong sense of community.
  • Anti-bullying workshops, lessons, and Anti-Bullying Week
Through our curriculum, assemblies, and themed events, we teach children about kindness, respect, and how to recognise and respond to bullying behaviour. Every year, Carr Green takes part in Anti-Bullying Week, with activities, assemblies, and lessons that raise awareness, promote positive relationships, and reinforce our message that bullying is never acceptable.
  • Follow-up and monitoring
All concerns are taken seriously. Incidents are recorded, investigated, and followed up to ensure the bullying has stopped and that children feel safe moving forward.

We are committed to working together to ensure that Carr Green Primary School remains a place where everyone is treated with kindness, respect, and dignity.

What Parents and Carers Can Do

At Carr Green Primary School, we value strong partnerships with parents and carers. By working together, we can ensure that all children feel safe, supported, and able to thrive.

  • Keep open communication
Talk regularly with your child about their day at school, their friendships, and how they are feeling. Encourage them to share any worries and reassure them that they will be listened to and supported.
  • Look for changes in mood, sleep, or behaviour
Be aware of any changes such as reluctance to attend school, anxiety, low mood, difficulty sleeping, or changes in appetite or behaviour. These may be signs that something is worrying your child and could also inluce

Be aware of signs that may indicate your child is being bullied, such as:

    • Withdrawal from friends or activities
    • Unexplained injuries or damaged belongings
    • Emotional distress, frequent headaches, or stomachaches
    • Reluctance to attend school
  • Contact the school promptly
If you have any concerns about bullying, please contact the school as soon as possible. Early communication helps us to respond quickly, investigate thoroughly, and put the right support in place.
  • Monitor safe online behaviour
Support your child to use technology safely and responsibly. This includes monitoring social media and online activity, encouraging respectful communication, and reminding children to report anything that makes them feel uncomfortable.

Reporting Bullying

If your child is experiencing or witnessing bullying, it is important to act quickly. Support is available both in school and through external organisations.
